UIA and Children Golden Cubes

Developing young people's awareness of architecture

The UIA Work Programme, Architecture and Children, announces the launch of an international awards programme: the UIA Architecture and Children Golden Cubes.

Developing children and young peoples’ awareness of architecture, the city and sustainable development is an urgent and vital challenge. With access to knowledge in these areas, they will, as adult citizens, be able to make their voices heard and influence the political, economic and social strategies which will shape their cities and their environment.

The UIA Architecture and Children Golden Cubes honour people and/or organisations that help children and young people understand architecture. Entrants are invited to present activities, structures or products designed to help children, from pre-school up to and including the age of 18, to understand architectural design and the processes by which our environment is shaped.

The UIA Architecture and Children Golden Cubes Awards is not a competition for which entrants are expected to produce new projects. It honours an activity or events, completed or running in the period from 1st January 2007 to 15 March 2011.

Prizes will be awarded in three categories: schools (directors, teachers, pupils), institutions (associations, foundations, museums), media (written, audiovisual). The deadline for submission is 15 March 2011.

This awards programme is organised in two phases. The first will be managed by the UIA Member Sections which will select one proposal in each category to be submitted to an international jury. The results will be announced during the 24th UIA Congress in Tokyo (25-29 September 2011).
